Head of Operations

Guardian Water Treatment, part of the WCS Group, is looking for a strategic operational leader to join the senior team based in Basildon, Essex. 

We are a successful, South East and London focused water treatment business that has grown year on year. Since joining the WCS Group two year’s ago, this growth has accelerated. We are currently investing in the senior team to continue this success and provide operational leadership,

Head of Operations overview:

  • Support the Managing Director and senior team in delivering operational performance and drive GM improvements.
  • Seek opportunities for ongoing improvements, through process efficiencies, new projects and proactive supplier management.
  • Work with Group HR to implement initiatives for the field-based teams with the aim of improving recruitment and retention of field staff.

Strong communication skills are essential and the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain the confidence of the operational and leadership teams; both within Guardian and the wider WCS Group.

Key Duties:

  • Drive an excellent customer service culture throughout the business.
  • Lead, control and monitor the GM to achieve ongoing improvements.
  • Review key service delivery metrics and develop strategies to measure and develop these key factors to drive GM improvements.
  • In conjunction with WCS Group initiatives, ensure the field teams are given the best opportunities for training and development to improve skillsets and allow for internal promotion to support growth in the business.
  • Produce relevant reports identifying challenges, risks and opportunities to the business.
  • Pro-actively managing health and safety following all group wide initiatives and ensuring their implementation through the Guardian teams.
  • Work closely with others in Operational lead positions within the group, sharing and creating best practices.
  • Act as a lead where required on key new contract mobilisations.
  • Work with Business Unit Leaders to undertake strategic reviews with their clients and contracts to review service standards and profitability.
  • Implement pro-active supplier management initiatives to maximise our relationships with our key partners.

Other relevant duties to be agreed with the Managing Director.

Person description

  • Experience of leading large operational teams in field-service roles, preferably with experience of the water treatment industry.
  • Proactive attitude to service delivery improvements and development of staff.
  • Ability to gain the respect of the service delivery teams in the office and field, and the gravitas to engage with key stakeholders at senior level.
  • Experience of implementing service delivery improvements and adding value to the operational margins.
  • Able to understand P&L and interpret key aspects of management accounts.
  • Experience of working in a service delivery/operational role in London, and around Facilities Management would be beneficial.
  • Experience of working in construction, commissioning, health and safety or compliance sectors would also be of interest.
