Domestic System Clean & Disinfection

One of the keys aspects of The Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L8) is the requirement for the maintenance of clean conditions in all water systems. A It requires that a hygienic approach to water storage is maintained at all times.

The monitoring required of cold water storage, under ACOP L8 is a twice annual tank inspection, is looking for the presence of calcium carbonate scale, sites of corrosion and/or products of corrosion, biofilms, and sedimen.

These are all contaminants within a water system that are known to allow for the proliferation of legionella bacteria, and must be removed from the system as soon as possible after their discovery. Guardian's engineers are highly trained, and experienced in the clean and disinfection of domestic water systems.

As well as Guardian's standard offering, a BS6700 (1997) clean and disinfection, using sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 50 p.p.m. for at least 1 hour contact time throughout the complete system. Guardian also offer the application of alternative disinfectants, namely chlorine dioxide, and silver peroxide. These technologies offer major advantages over sodium hypochlorite, in that both of them have powerful biofilm stripping properties, sodium hypochlorite does not, also sodium hypochlorite is not effective as a biocide at higher pH values especially above 8.3 when the disinfectant power rapidly diminishes. Sodium hypochlorite is a very reactive species and forms compounds with many other species, the others are more specific and react mainly with the bacteria present.
