The process will not only remove lime scales, but also rust and other adherent deposits that cannot readily be removed by non-acid solvents.

Preparation and prerequisites
Preparation of the equipment for descaling will normally be carried out by the customer, who should consult Guardian on:

- Locations and sizes of isolating valves, drain valves and injection points;
- Water supply and drain away facilities;
- It may be necessary for Water Authority permission to dispose of effluents;
- Pumping requirements, as to whether system pumps can be used;
- Storage facilities for chemicals.

A complete circuit is required, through which the acid can pass, it must allow for full circulation of the cleaning solution, to all parts of the contaminated system. Only when the system is open to full flow circulation to all parts will a descale effectively clean up a compromised system.
